HOLY HABITS

Updated: Jun 23

In one way or another and to varying degrees, every human being is a creature of habit.

The question is, to what end do our habits contribute to us being all that God created us to be.

The Apostle Peter, in 1 Peter 1:15, admonishes us to:

"Be Holy in all you do."

He then references the book of Leviticus, chapter 11, verse 45:

"Therefore, be Holy, because I am Holy."

So what are “HOLY HABITS”?

HOLY HABITS are the path to Holiness. HOLY HABITS are the things you and I do in the name of Jesus and in the power of the Holy Spirit that glorify God.

Everything God created, including man, He created for one purpose and one purpose only….to glorify Himself.

But we were not born with habits or character, both have to be developed. And the nature of both is determined by which God we have chosen to serve. And that would be our Creator, or the God of this world.

Any worldly habit you or I develop reflects back on us. Holy Habits are a reflection of Him who lives in us and through whom and in whose power we are able to practice them.

Every kindness you and I extend to another person in the name of Jesus and in the power of the Holy Spirit becomes a Holy Habit….because it glorifies God.

Every act of forgiveness you or I bestow on another person, if it is done in the name of Jesus and in the power of the Holy Spirit is a Holy Habit….because it glorifies God.

The patience we have with the difficult person in our lives, or the thankful and joyful way we care for an elderly parent, spouse, handicapped person or child, if it is done in the name of Jesus and in the power of the Holy Spirit, it is a Holy Habit….because it glorifies God.

Our prayers for wisdom and discernment to be able to see the evil that is in this world (and often right under our noses)….evil which is being promoted and practiced under virtuous and noble-sounding banners and organizations but whose real agendas are to destroy this country….those prayers are Holy Habits because taking a stand against evil in the name of Jesus and in the power of the Holy Spirit wherever we see it glorifies God.

When we are obedient to all God calls us to do and be, if every act of our obedience is in the name of Jesus and in the power of the Holy Spirit, they are Holy Habits….because they glorify God.

The Apostle Paul’s life was one of Holy Habits which he admonished the Philippians to practice to the end that the God of peace would be with them. (Philippians 4:9)

In his best selling book ATOMIC HABITS, author James Clear insists that the quality of one’s life is often if not nearly always determined by the quality of their habits. But those habits we develop ourselves with only our own resources, while they might have “ATOMIC” power to substantially change our lives, they do not, they cannot possess the supernatural power which only comes from our Creator and they do not glorify Him.

Holy Habits that are practiced and acquired in the name of Jesus and in the power of the Holy Spirit, have the same power that raised Jesus from the dead and glorified God.

"And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the

glory which I had with You before the world was. " (John 17:5)

And if we, in the name of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit continue to practice Holy Habits, we too shall one day be raised from the dead and that will most certainly glorify God.

OH! REALLY? Wow!
